In most of the text-based works I have made over the years, the text snippets originate in the ongoing series of Snarkbooks I have been making since 2002. This work makes that connection explicit (as do the MEMO/RANDOM drawings), by including index numbers with each burst of text that map to the specific Snarkbook and page it comes from; the title, Operation Hydrology, for instance, comes from “(S18.17),” i.e. Snarkbook 18, page 17. I have a long interest in exploring systems, data, mapping, labeling, and the transformation or confusion of the technological and the poetic.
