See the January 22, 2007 issue of the New Yorker for the article Digging for Dodos [abstract] by Ian Parker. The now extinct dodo bird was only found on the island of Mauritius, and ground zero for finding dodo skeletons is the Mare aux Songes, or “Pond of Dreams”.
